Pomegranate and... Green Pepper?

Here is a pomegranate and a green pepper drawn in red. I know, I'm smarmy. These are both pretty small, more intimate pieces. I'm trying to explore more inking approaches and have been drawing a lot of my favorite fruits and vegetables lately, probably in connection with my becoming a vegetarian. This is in response to Terri's foliage type piece again.

Mountainscape

From Spencer, this piece is in response to Dennis' Badlands piece. I love rocky landscapes and all of the strange geometric shapes they create.

Work from Scott K

In response to Spencer's Cowboy Remembrance piece that was based on old ranch hands and farmers that died in the war, here is a war based piece of a soldier in a gas mask making their way through the toxic trenches.

In response to Karyl's starting piece, the mohawk on the helmet was reminiscent of good old Mr. T's mohawk, and thus here is this piece depicting characters from the A-Team!

Spencer's snowy piece reminded Scott of his interest in graphic novel characters and this series of pieces about the Weatherman!

And, a bit looser of a relation, Terri's piece was reminiscent of a green walk through the park, so here is an editorial based illustration of a child and his father walking through the park as the reflection in the water reveals a little bit of what the child sees.

The Bad Lands

Two amazing landscape illustrations for the show from Dennis Budgen. Dennis has been a professional illustrator and instructor at the Alberta College of Art and Design for many years now.

These are both framed together in this order, one on top of the other, and the 2nd image isn't as good a quality as the first due to the reflections from the glass when I took the photo. Come see it, and all of the amazing work featured on this blog live to remedy that!

The Converging Conversations show will be on Saturday, the 3rd of October at 7PM at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery in Dawson Creek, BC!

Train Tracks

A piece for the show from Hilary and Tyler Jenkins entitled "Train Tracks"

Shipwrecked.

In response to Karyl's Castaway piece, here is a shipwrecked watercolor. This is about 5 x 7.

Tiger eyes

Based on Terri's latest piece, all I could think of was a Tiger peering through the greenery! And this little guy reminded me of Karyl's piece from a while ago.
And this last one was inspired in the same way as the Tiger piece off of Terri's greenery one. All of these are framed in IKEA frames. The tiger in an orange one, and the other two in black ones. Also, the tiger is ink on sandpaper.

Sorry this image is small, but it was either small or overly gigantic. Anyway, Spencer's snowy piece reminded me of this water reflection silkscreen I created.

Reaction to Terri's latest piece

The tones in Terri's piece reminded me of snow, and thus here is a snowy piece! This is tiny, and framed in a small IKEA black frame.

Reaction to Spencer's latest piece

For whatever reason I could not change the orientation of this picture. It is suppose to be viewed horizontally... sorry everyone, but you'll have to use your imaginations.

Spencer's abstract segmented drawings reminded me of this painting I did a few months back, which is a segment of a picture and follows the same long and narrow landscape shape as his drawings, as well is also rather abstract.

Terri Le Gear's starting piece + ones that followed it

Here is Terri Le Gear's starting pieces for the show (a tryptich) and the ones that followed it:

From Karyl:

Title: Reunion
Media: Oil on Canvas
Year: 2008
Size: 18x24" (Landscape)
Price: $275.00

Terri's triptych reminded me of brains, so I made a piece about a human man's brain being put into a robot... who then reunites with his significant other.

From Spencer Goldade:

"Despite how visceral Terri's pieces were, they reminded me of mountainscapes for some reason, so I made this..."

In reply to the mountainscape, Karyl Gilbertson created the following:

"Based on Spenny's landscape, I created a portrait of a character that might live there..."

Title: Desert Girl
Media: Digital (Photoshop)
Year: 2009
Size: 8x10" (Portrait)
Price: $50.00 (Framed Digital Print)

Based on the girl, and the mountainscape, Spencer created a black and white catacomb piece:

Based on the catacombs by Spencer, Karyl created this piece:

Title: Horse Demon
Media: Digital (Photoshop)
Year: 2009
Size: 8x10" (Landscape)
Price: $50.00 (Framed Digital Print)

And, although it was a demonic looking horse in Karyl's last piece, it reminded Spencer of the wild west and he created these four black and white pieces:

Karyl Gilbertson's starting piece "Spartan Still Life"

Here is Karyl Gilbertson's starting piece for the show:

Title: Spartan Still Life
Media: Oil on Canvas
Year: 2008
Size: 16x20" (Landscape)
Price: $225.00
