Terri Le Gear's starting piece + ones that followed it

Here is Terri Le Gear's starting pieces for the show (a tryptich) and the ones that followed it:

From Karyl:

Title: Reunion
Media: Oil on Canvas
Year: 2008
Size: 18x24" (Landscape)
Price: $275.00

Terri's triptych reminded me of brains, so I made a piece about a human man's brain being put into a robot... who then reunites with his significant other.

From Spencer Goldade:

"Despite how visceral Terri's pieces were, they reminded me of mountainscapes for some reason, so I made this..."

In reply to the mountainscape, Karyl Gilbertson created the following:

"Based on Spenny's landscape, I created a portrait of a character that might live there..."

Title: Desert Girl
Media: Digital (Photoshop)
Year: 2009
Size: 8x10" (Portrait)
Price: $50.00 (Framed Digital Print)

Based on the girl, and the mountainscape, Spencer created a black and white catacomb piece:

Based on the catacombs by Spencer, Karyl created this piece:

Title: Horse Demon
Media: Digital (Photoshop)
Year: 2009
Size: 8x10" (Landscape)
Price: $50.00 (Framed Digital Print)

And, although it was a demonic looking horse in Karyl's last piece, it reminded Spencer of the wild west and he created these four black and white pieces:

Karyl Gilbertson's starting piece "Spartan Still Life"

Title: Spartan Still Life

Spencer's Starting Piece + those that it inspired thus far

Hello,

This blog will serve as a digital showcase and copy to many of the pieces to be shown in the Converging Conversations October 2009 show.

To begin, here is the piece I created and the pieces thus far that other people created after viewing it:

My piece:
Cowboy Remembrance
A piece remembering cowboys and ranch hands that fought in the war

piece that came afterward, by Karyl Gilbertson:

Title: At The End Of The Labyrinth
Media: Oil on Canvas
Year: 2008
Size: 16x20" (Portrait)
Price: $225.00

The Skinny

The show is called Converging Conversations and its slated for October 3rd to November 8th, at the Dawson Creek Art Gallery.

Everything in the show is based upon something else in the show. Everyone involved makes one starting artwork that has a strong conceptual or story base, and every subsequent artwork after that is based on any of those original series of pieces. We need between 40 and 60, and its going to be fun and interesting!

Quoted from the DC Art Gallery Website:

"Everything influences everything else; every story is inspired by another story, every effect has its cause. Spencer Goldade has invited fellow artists to feed directly off that concept. Each artist will create one initial piece for this exhibit, strongly based in concept and narrative. All of the artists will then only create works that use each other's beginning pieces as a starting point. They are open to take the concept presented by their colleague and completely stretch it, even taking it in an entirely different direction. When the path they've taken isn't necessarily clear, artists will provide a short description or rationale outlining what they thought of the original piece and how it inspired them to create the final work. All the artists will be encouraged to explore different mediums to express their ideas. Perhaps a poem or a sculpture will inspire an artist to create a painting, or vice versa."
